1960s constructivist relief
An interesting and well executed relief made up of wooden slats, black paper and paint from the mid 1960s. Constructivist and early 20th century European, Modernist influences. This piece shows clear references to the British artist Victor Pasmore
The piece is signed and dated 1965 on the back by British painter William Wright Whittam (1931-1996) William Wright was an established painter working in a progressive but representational style in and around Manchester during the 1960s and 70s. His paintings are held by The Salford Museum & Art Gallery, Manchester Met and the University of Manchester.
This well composed piece of constructivist art is an unusual and subsequently rare example of the artist work.
