  • Robert Edgar Bird (b. 1921) was an abstract artist exhibiting in the 1960s and 1970s. His work was shown at the Oxford Gallery, numerous commercial London galleries and he is represented by a typical example in the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. In his earlier years he painted portraits and other figurative subjects. Robert Bird lived for some years near Leek in Staffordshire.

His work is based in the post war abstract tradition and influenced by the St Ives school of painters. He works in oil paint, often textured onto board and he likes to explore tonal range particularly through the use of blacks.
