Lionel Ellis ARCA (1903-1988) wood engraving

  • An original hand cut and hand printed wood engraving by Lionel Ellis. Recently reframed and archivally dry mounted.

    Lionel Ellis ARCA (1903-1988) Painter, wood engraver, book illustrator. Born in Plymouth. Attended The Royal College of Art 1922-4 where he obtained a travelling scholarship to Paris and Italy. Wood engravings heavily influenced by his time in Europe. Illustrated small edition works on Poetry and Greek mythology.

    Exhibited at The Royal Academy, NEAC and regularly at The Redfern Gallery.

    The V&A, British Museum and many UK galleries hold his work.
