Mid 20th century geometric abstract

A powerful painting and a terrific example of British, post war abstraction. Likely 1960s or even late 1950s timeline, this geometric abstract has all the strength of a modern master. The composition is balanced whilst dynamic showing echoes of early Terry Frost and the St Ives school of painting. One might suggest an element of symbolism here too with motifs or the sun and the moon a possibility. The painting has been executed with heavy oil paint onto canvas and does subsequently show signs of craquelure and age. Nevertheless, there are no areas of loss and the paint surface is perfectly stable. 

The painting is signed on the back and has an inscription which seems to correlate with the signature but as yet, we have been unable to trace the artist. Further research would be recommended.

We have recently re housed this piece in a stained wooden frame.
