Post-modern, bentwood chair from 'Practical Styling' Tommy Roberts & Paul Jones
A unique and rare piece.
A stylish, bent-ply chair by the seminal and influential house of Tommy (Mr Freedom) Roberts and Paul Jones. Designed and made collaboratively by Paul Jones and painter/designer Peter Denmark.
The chair dates from the early 1980s and was sold through the iconic 'Practical Styling' post modern boutique, located at the foot of Centrepoint in the West End of London. The Practical Styling store sold Memphis and postmodern art/design to the discerning collector, fashionista and celebrity alike. The store was one in a line of seminal outlets set up by Tommy Roberts aka 'Mr Freedom' who was one of Londons most colourful and influential characters.
This piece would grace any important, post modern or 20th century design collection whilst serving as a rather comfortable and practical hall/studio chair.
The chair is sold with full and direct provenance to Tommy Roberts, Paul Jones and Peter Denmark, the 3 key protagonists behind the 'Practical Styling' period.
