Surgery scene. Early 20th century oil on canvas

£1,600.00Price
  • A fascinating and beautifully painted scene. Dating from the first half of the 20th century, most likely between the wars, a scene of surgery, care and duty. A surgeon attends whilst nurse and anaesthetist assist. We can date the painting from the depiction of an ether mask used to administer anaesthetic. The painting has obvious echoes of the field/surgery drawings by sculptor, Barbara Hepworth.

This painting has the provenance of; the estate of British artist Pamela Chard (1926-2003)

The piece shows signs of cracking/crazing which is compatible and expected of a painting of this age. Nevertheless, the paintwork and canvas is stable.

Housed in a period, painted wooden frame, this painting would suit collector, designer, enthusiast and artist alike.
